Stop the Influx

Alberta is gaining people. Comrades, this is a crisis.

In 2023, Alberta (one province, about 4.7 million people) gained 185,313 people.1

That same year, the world's leading socialist and communist nations did the responsible thing. China, Venezuela, Vietnam, Cuba, Laos, Nicaragua and North Korea lost 805,205 people between them.1

Cuba's own statistics office says 251,221 more people left Cuba than arrived in 2024.2 That's leadership.

It's even worse inside Canada. Alberta gained a net 48,394 people from other provinces in a single year, the most in a series going back to 1961.3 Under the last NDP government, Alberta lost people to other provinces every single year.4 Those were the good years.

So why does everyone keep moving here? Because nobody in Alberta has tried socialism yet. The rest of the world has already shown us the way. We just need the courage to follow it.

The policyElect socialism, and let Alberta finally join the nations people are leaving.

The numbers (that don't matter)

We cite our sources. We just don't read them.

  1. Added together, the seven countries (Cuba, Venezuela, North Korea, China, Vietnam, Laos, Nicaragua) had a combined UN-estimated net migration of -805,205 in 2023 across about 1.6 billion people, while Alberta (4.7 million people) gained 185,313. UN Population Division; Statistics Canada · I17
  2. Cuba's own statistics office put the country's net external migration at -251,221 people in 2024, about 25.4 per 1,000 residents, a much bigger loss than the UN model shows. ONEI (Cuba's national statistics office) via Juventud Tecnica / OnCuba News · I5
  3. In the 12 months to June 2024 Alberta had a net gain of 48,394 people from other provinces, the highest July-to-June total in the series back to 1961/62, while BC had a net loss of 4,127. Statistics Canada · E1
  4. During the Alberta NDP years Alberta lost people to other provinces every single July-to-June year (about 35,900 net over four years); under the UCP the seven-year total is a net gain of about 129,700, though the first two UCP years were still negative. Statistics Canada · E2
  5. Venezuela had net emigration of 112,899 in 2023 and 105,297 projected for 2024 per the UN model, down from 975,534 in 2019; by the UN model it is still the worst per-person loss of the seven countries (3.99 per 1,000). UN Population Division / World Bank · I8
  6. The UN's modelled estimate for North Korea's net migration is only -1,997 in 2023 (-2,473 projected for 2024), a tiny outflow from a country that restricts exit. UN Population Division / World Bank · I10
  7. China's net migration was an outflow of 567,724 people in 2023 (UN estimate), about 0.4 per 1,000, the largest absolute loss of the seven countries. UN Population Division / World Bank · I12
  8. Vietnam's net migration swung from about -5,000 a year in 2021 to -81,789 in 2023 (UN estimate), about 0.8 per 1,000. UN Population Division / World Bank · I13
  9. Laos had net emigration of 10,003 in 2023 (UN estimate), about 1.3 per 1,000, with similar losses projected for 2024 and 2025. UN Population Division / World Bank · I14
  10. The UN model puts Nicaragua's net migration at -7,996 in 2023, while Confidencial reported 'some 95,000' Nicaraguans leaving in 2024 (no source given) and an exile-activist NGO counted at least 800,000 leaving between April 2018 and November 2025. UN Population Division; Confidencial; Collective for Human Rights and Historical Memory of Nicaragua · I15
  11. The UN's modelled estimate for Cuba's net migration is only about 22,000 a year (-22,797 for 2023, -22,356 projected for 2024), while Cuba's own statistics office (ONEI) reports -345,418 for 2023 and -251,221 for 2024, so the UN series understates Cuban emigration by a factor of 11 to 15. UN Population Division / World Bank · I7
  12. On calendar-year terms, Alberta's total net migration was +185,313 in 2023, +156,653 in 2024 and +74,284 in 2025, which lines up with the UN's calendar-year country figures. Statistics Canada · I4
